On these pages I will say a few things about military uniforms, mainly African, of the Cold War period. Each of these pages covers a subject which I find interesting and which, so far as I can see, little or no useful literature exists. I should of course emphasise that I know nothing whatsoever about military uniforms, or military matters more broadly, and I’m wholly unequipped to undertake a task like this. These pages should be treated as the rough notes for, or the most basic outline of, an actually serious and systematic treatment of the topics in question — to be written by somebody more intelligent than my own self. Comments, clarifications and, especially, corrections, are more than welcome.
Apart from the drawings on the Centrafrique pages, and the couple of photos I have licensed (these are indicated), I have no rights to any of the images used here, but I believe my employment of them is legally justifiable on a “fair use” basis — every image here is here because it illustrates something relevant, no better material is available anywhere else, and I’ve cropped every image to focus specifically on the area of interest within it. There are also no clickthroughs. I am of course deeply obliged to the various news archives I have consulted here for making their footage and images available online.
